Dodeca Light Fixtures Deerfoot Mall in Calgary
Deerfoot Mall Dodeca lights – an exciting project for Shape Properties. In collaboration with a Vancouver based Lighting Designer, Karice Lighting was commissioned to design, develop, and craft three brand new custom Dodeca lighting fixtures for the Deerfoot Mall in Calgary, Alberta. The lights are a variation on the original DODECA light fixture made for the Earls Denver Glenarm project in 2014.
Karice was presented with a concept, and a size. Our design work details how the light was built, and what had to be done to make the project happen. Illumination calculations, lens calculations, internal structure calculations were all drafted in Auto CAD. Hanging details had to be figured out. What was the ceiling construction. Details provided by the onsite electrician, enabled us to design engineer the hanging details required to hang these fixtures.
The first three images in our post show the Dodeca lights in all their glory suspended in the Deerfoot Mall in Calgary, Alberta.
The remaining images are in process photos of the Dodeca lights in production at the Karice facility. A close up view demonstrates the meticulous attention to detail that is given in the Karice production process. Joints are almost invisible. Quality is key at Karice. No product leaves our doors without careful inspection, insuring that our quality standards are met.
Once the lights return from the powder coater, LEDs are installed around the inner perimeter of the light, pointing inwards. Afterwards, an acrylic lens is inserted around the inner perimeter to diffuse the LEDs eliminating the possibility of hot spots.
Hanging details are worked out ahead of time. This will enable a seamless installation on site.
Carefully crated up, finished product is well protected prior to leaving on its long journey to our neighboring province of Alberta.
