Custom Brass Birdcage Chandelier Framing Nine Glass Pendants
For Blubird Clothing on Alberni Street in Vancouver, Box Interior Designs came to us with the idea for a large birdcage chandelier in brass.
The concept was distinctive from the start. Our job at Karice was to turn it into a finished custom chandelier while keeping the cage, suspended pendants, and varied hanging heights that gave the design its character.
We fabricated the cage from genuine brass round bars and suspended it from a single canopy. Inside, nine pendants hang at different heights, each using hand-blown glass to diffuse the LED bulb.
Two of those pendants were originally designed to extend below the bottom of the cage. At the final install, however, they had to be shortened to provide adequate clearance in the retail space. The adjustment kept the layered look of the original concept while making the fixture work better within the retail space.
The brass chandelier was not the only piece we produced for the store. Three additional custom brass pendants were suspended over the curved brass mirror frame, extending the same material language into another area of the interior.
Together, the brass cage chandelier and supporting pendant work carry Box Interior Designs’ original concept through to the finished space without losing the details that made it distinctive.
