A Loose Ceiling Composition Built Through Precise Lighting Coordination
The Hollyburn Properties lobby uses light as a broad ceiling feature. From below, the installation feels loose, open, and deliberately varied. Behind that relaxed composition was a controlled build.
The lighting had to feel random while still aligning with the ceiling, the lobby layout, and the intended view from the floor. We developed the fixture system around that balance: movement overhead, clean coordination above.
Multi-Arm Bulb Chandelier Fabrication
The installation is made up of eight brass multi-arm chandelier pieces. Each chandelier was designed with branching arms and exposed bulb points, giving the lobby a distributed ceiling composition. The brass finish stays visible against the dark ceiling above, with the warm bulb tone carrying the effect down into the space.
Getting their arrangement right comes down to spacing. Too regular, and the fixture loses its movement. Too random, and it can feel unresolved. We drafted randomized lighting concepts in Fusion 360, so the arrangement could be reviewed and adjusted by SSDG Interiors before fabrication began.
Ceiling Mounting and Installation Coordination
Each chandelier was installed onto ceiling j-boxes and mounted using three j-box canopy mounting plates. And that detail mattered because the fixtures are spread across the lobby ceiling. Each mounting point had to support the branching chandelier structure while keeping the composition clean from below.
The layout also had to coordinate with the ceiling plane, canopy positions, and the placement of all eight lobby chandeliers together. The arms only read as effortless once the mounting, spacing, and orientation were resolved.
The Tala Bulbs Effect
The exposed bulb chandelier design used Tala Porcelain II 6W LED bulbs, selected by Lightform.
The Tala light bulbs’ smooth globe form gives each arm a clean endpoint, while their 540 lumens at a CRI of 95 keep the light both bright and true to colour. At just 6 watts, the bulbs use up to 90 percent less energy and last 10 to 15 times longer than incandescent, without giving up the dimmable LED performance the lobby setting needs.
Across the eight brass chandeliers, the repeated glowing points bring a warm, layered lobby lighting effect to the Hollyburn Properties space.
