Introducing Luxennea – a new lighting series from Karice using LED lighting technology. Energy efficient and elegant, the permanently “linked” Luxennea is suspended by aircraft cables to give the illusion that it is floating in the air.
Inspired by geometric shapes, the Linked Luxennea is the first in this original series, which is the culmination of Karice’s intellectual property on previous projects. The sophistication and craftsmanship of the Luxennea collection is a true reflection of 23 years in the industry.
It’s also big! The large chandelier combines two 5-foot diameter enneagon rings. As viewed in this blog post, the two-ringed Linked Luxennea is 8-feet 6-inches long.
The numerous custom components needed to create the Linked Luxennea were designed and manufactured in-house here at Karice. An aluminum extrusion was developed. Special hangers were created to enable handling of the two geometric shapes simultaneously (this was especially needed during the powder coating process), and a unique in-house technology was developed to power the light without wiring.
As shown, the Linked Luxennea is just two rings, but it can be configured with as many links and shapes as desired, suspended in a variety of configurations. The tilted angle can easily be adjusted, and the lights can also be suspended further apart. So from this preset, an infinite number of creative possibilities can be achieved. The combinations are unlimited.
All fixture design, product development, and manufacturing of the Linked Luxennea were completed by Karice at its facility in Surrey (just outside Vancouver, BC, Canada). The powder coated finishing was outsourced to local vendors.

Canadian artisan lighting manufacturer, Karice released their latest, sleekest fixture at the Interior Design Show that took place in Vancouver September 2017.
Meet Retta. Inspired by nature’s log jam on the shores of BC’s beautiful Harrison Lake, Retta takes her name from the Italian word for “straight line”. Retta’s meticulously machined end caps with light gold anodized finish resembling brass, decorate the ends of this trendy design. The grooves in the end caps create visual interest with three smooth surfaces.

Sure to be stylish in any setting, the light body is a blackened bronze anodized finish and aluminum and frosted clear acrylic diffusers – a perfect match with the end caps. Retta is available in 18″, 24″, 36″, and 48″ lengths. The light source is an integral LED strip available in 2700k, 3000k, and 4100k.

The artisans at Karice pride themselves on being able to turn the most imaginative and far-fetched ideas into tangible works of art.
One customer wanted a huge lighting fixture with industrial appeal. Karice created an 11-by-45-foot chandelier including faux piping and elegant, yet cage-like metal light coverings.
Karice’s artisans have made glowing rings that appear to float in thin air, illuminating 360 degrees. They’ve crafted an artistic replica of a famous ancient tree in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, using ingenuity to make aluminum do things they weren’t sure were possible.

If the Renaissance Man were alive today, how would he use his body of work to design a lighting collection? This is the inspiration for Maurice Dery’s latest avant-garde luminaire series.The light was designed, developed, and manufactured in Surrey, BC by the father-son design team at Karice Enterprises: Maurice and Jordan Dery.
The Da Vinci collection is inspired by one question: If Leonardo, the great Renaissancian, were alive today, how would he incorporate 21st-century technology into his designs? Over the last ten months, this has been Karice’s inspiration and guide in creating this handcrafted luminaire series.
n the fashion of Leonardo da Vinci, the theme revolves around machine gears, along with magnifiers that are used to intensify the light sources to mirrors, that can then redirect the light to the wall or floor. Using the latest in lighting, machining, and metalwork technology, the Karice’s Da Vinci collection brings the Italian Renaissance back to life, in avant-garde form.
The Da Vinci collection is based on the challenging premise of using modern technology to create an original avant-garde suite of luminaire pieces that accurately portray the spirit of what Leonardo was doing in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Specifically, the objective was to reflect the mechanics of Da Vinci, and to reflect his approach in magnifying and projecting light.
Unlike anything Maurice Dery and his award-winning team at Karice have created in the past, the Da Vinci collection demanded a reverence for history, and a resurrection of centuries-old lighting methodology.
The task was not easy. Karice has taken on many “impossible” projects, but epic pieces like the Sprocket, for example, were purely from the heart of Maurice. But with this series, Maurice was searching for what inspired Da Vinci … alone.
The Leonardo 1482 poetically resembles a rising sun, borrowing heavily from Renaissance-era mechanics, and is appropriately named for the year Leonardo da Vinci began designing and developing his inventions.

LOBBY LIGHTING INSTALLATION – HOLLYBURN PROPERTIES – LIGHT FORM
Lobby Lighting Installation. The incredibly talented team at SSDG working with Lightform commissioned Karice to collaborate on their lighting design for the new lobby for Hollyburn Properties in Vancouver. Brass finish lights were designed and created for this beautiful location. Random lighting concepts were created and drafted in Fusion 360. Our client Lightform was thrilled with the 3D images we were able to present to them. SSDG made a few minor tweaks to the design and we were able to commence fabrication.
The lobby looks stunning, one can’t help but notice the beautiful display of luminaires. The lighting display is impressive to say the least.
The lighting installation consists of eight chandeliers that are installed onto the ceiling j-boxes. Each light is mounted with three j-box canopy mounting plates. The bulb chosen for the installation greatly impacted the final appeal and look of these lights. The bulbs selected are by TALA

Individually sandblasted, smooth dimmable LED filament lamp made of mouth-blown glass. This lamp uses 6 Watts of power and achieves 540 Lumens at a CRI of 95. It has an IP54 rating LED bulbs were selected by the team at Lightform. And what a great choice they are. Perfect for the light and room setting.
TALA BULBS
Specializing in low-energy LED lighting solutions that recall the warm glow of traditional luminaires, Tala’s lighting solutions are both visually appealing and sustainable.
The British lighting brand’s “conservation through beauty” mission is enacted in every design – from its Classic collection, inspired by the retro aesthetic of Edison bulbs, through to its Voronoi collection, inspired by patterns found in nature.
Creating bulbs that use 90 percent less energy and last 10 to 15 times longer than incandescent bulbs, Tala proves that every aspect of contemporary lighting should be designed with quality and longevity in mind. CUSTOM LIGHTING WHISTLER CONFERENCE CENTRE
Custom Lighting Whistler Conference Centre, a story to be told. The picturesque city of Whistler has long been a destination for vacation and business travelers alike. Tourism Whistler set its sites on the Whistler Conference Centre to meet the growing demand for a state-of-the-art conference facility.
The Whistler conference Centre revitalization plan brought a 5 star wish list to their design team. The facility as it was lacked the flexibility for the conference centre to attract events it was marketing to. The A+D design team of Lynn Rines Interior Design worked with Tourism Whistler’s Mark Wrightson to bring together a tight cohesive professional discipline team working closely with their construction team.
The original architectural features a West Coast feel of large structure wood beams and wood ceilings providing the natural warmth expressed in many Whistler structures. The light design concept began with a goal to open up the ceilings in the conference centre foyers and ballrooms. The conference centre was looking to attract conference clients requiring large gatherings, ballroom facilities, and specialty entertainment events.
The design team began very early to address the outdated lighting system. It was potentially holding back the multi-use concept design and the ability to fully appreciate the original architectural design.
CUSTOM LIGHTING WHISTLER CONFERENCE CENTRE
The light element became the key ingredient to achieve the design goals. Lighting Consultant, Margot Richards joined the design team to ensure light goals would be achieved with the new lighting equipment. The design concepts along with technical lighting requirements were brought to the team at Karice.
Karice then began the work to engineer, design and build the lighting fixtures and ensure the lighting concepts became a reality. Extensive testing went into achieving the impressive and flexible lighting levels that were required. The custom designed luminaires needed to light up the voluminous architectural space of the main hall and have the flexibility for more intimate functions. Karice utilized the very latest in LED technologies to achieve the design goals. Each chandelier delivers over 32,000 lumens of down light, 16,000 lumens of up light and x8 spot lights delivering 1800 lumens each. A Multi-channel Dali Dimming system was used to satisfy the design requirements of the electrical engineer – Integral Group.
The main ballroom is illuminated by large nine-foot round diameter, copper finished chandeliers. This aesthetic blended exceptionally with the beam structures of the main conference areas. Two identical large chandeliers flanking either side of the impressive stone fireplace make a striking presence in the grand foyer of the centre. In the ballroom, twenty large 6-foot-high wall sconces make their statement on the four perimeter walls. The lower level of the facility is completed with the same aesthetic, with 4ft diameter flush mounted custom fixtures.
In designing the ballroom space further physical considerations for flexibility were required. The conference centre received requests to host concert events. This brought the lighting elements into the equation. Working with the design team Karice had to design the ability to have the chandeliers clear show specific Audio-Visual Equipment. The solution, each chandelier was mounted on an electric hoisting system that enables the lights to be lifted up and down. This was a feat, considering that each light weighs in excess of 600 pounds each. Accomplishing this also allowed for floor level maintenance of the chandeliers.
