Custom Linear Lighting for One of Canada’s Landmark Public Spaces

Large public spaces demand lighting that performs as beautifully as it appears. For the BMO Convention Centre, Karice developed a custom family of linear luminaires designed to provide comfortable, consistent illumination while complementing the building’s contemporary architecture.

Stretching throughout the convention centre’s primary circulation corridors, each fixture was engineered to deliver a clean, uninterrupted appearance at a significant scale. The project required seamless one-piece construction, individually controlled uplight and downlight, and continuous lenses that maintained flawless light distribution over long spans.

The result is a lighting system that quietly guides visitors through the building while reinforcing the architectural rhythm of one of Canada’s premier convention facilities.

A Sculptural Centerpiece Inspired by Nature

The main atrium presented an opportunity to create more than a lighting fixture, it called for an architectural statement that would define visitors’ first impression of the convention center.

Working closely with the design team, Karice designed and manufactured a one-of-a-kind sculptural chandelier inspired by the organic complexity of intertwined barb-wire. Suspended within the dramatic entrance atrium, the installation balances intricate craftsmanship with sophisticated engineering to create a feature that feels both artistic and architectural.

Every branch, glass element, and illuminated tip was carefully positioned to create depth and movement from every viewing angle. Despite its complexity, the structure was engineered for long-term reliability, serviceability, and precise installation, ensuring the fixture performs as beautifully as it appears.

The completed installation has become one of the defining architectural features of the BMO Convention Centre, welcoming visitors with a lighting experience that is both memorable and uniquely Canadian.
