A Cohesive Lighting Experience for a Global Financial Headquarters
For Morgan Stanley’s Boston office, the reception area demanded more than a single feature fixture. The vision called for multiple custom lighting solutions that would work together to define the space, reinforce the architectural language, and create a refined first impression for clients and visitors.
Karice engineered and manufactured two entirely different custom lighting systems, each developed to solve its own technical and architectural challenge. From a seamless recessed linear fixture integrated into the ceiling architecture to a sculptural statement installation featuring lunar glass globes, every element was designed specifically for the project while maintaining a unified visual identity.
Although each fixture required a different engineering approach, they were conceived as complementary architectural features. Together, they establish rhythm, highlight key spaces, and create a sophisticated reception environment that reflects Morgan Stanley’s contemporary workplace.
Seamless Recessed Linear Lighting
Rather than suspending a decorative fixture within the reception, the design called for lighting that appeared to be part of the architecture itself. Achieving this required far more than simply increasing the size of a standard luminaire.
Karice engineered and manufactured a 13โ recessed oval-linear fixture featuring a single continuous illuminated lens with no visible seams, joints, or transitions. Custom mounting systems were developed specifically for the ceiling construction, while transportation, handling, and installation procedures were carefully planned to protect the integrity of the uninterrupted lens.
The completed installation provides a clean architectural presence that feels integrated into the building rather than added to it.
Sculptural Ceiling Fixture with Lunar Globe Glass
The second feature introduces a completely different architectural expression while maintaining the same level of precision and craftsmanship.
Spanning more than 19โ in length and nearly 8โ wide, the sculptural ceiling fixture was engineered as a modular system that could be transported and installed efficiently while appearing as a single seamless composition. Finished in polished black chrome, every connection and transition required exceptionally tight manufacturing tolerances to preserve the uninterrupted reflective surface.
Each illuminated globe was individually crafted to recreate the texture and appearance of the moon. Rather than producing identical globes, subtle variations were intentionally introduced, creating a natural composition that gives the installation depth, character, and individuality.
