A Custom Clock Chandelier Built Around the Mechanics of Time
For this private office in Canada, we custom-made TIME, one of Kariceโs signature decorative fixtures.
Designed by Maurice Dery, TIME takes the inner workings of a mechanical clock and puts them on full display. Instead of hiding the gears and smaller parts behind a clock face, the design makes them the main feature.
Different-sized gears overlap across the fixture, with springs, pins, and oversized clock hands layered throughout the composition. From below, the clock chandelier feels intricate and mechanical, but the reference to a timepiece is still easy to recognize.
The lighting plays into that idea too. Integrated LED COB sources sit where the ruby jewels would traditionally appear inside a mechanical clock. So, the points of light feel like part of the clockwork rather than something added on afterward.
TIME was originally inspired by the Alice in Wonderland concept, which gives it a slightly surreal edge that suits its exposed mechanics. For this project, we adapted our signature design into a custom-made gear chandelier for the private office. The fixture brought sculpture and the language of clockwork lighting together in one suspended piece.
