An Intersecting Grid of Linear Lighting Above an Open Restaurant Ceiling
At Tractor Foods in Vancouver’s TELUS Garden, a grid of intersecting linear lights spans the ceiling of their open kitchen and dining counter. The challenge for our team was that the space needed enough overhead illumination to serve as functional restaurant lighting. But the fixture shouldn’t read as a single heavy mass against the ceiling above it.
Working with Dave Wong of WHG Design, we designed and manufactured the custom linear lighting as a 22-foot by 7-foot suspended composition. Individual sections cross each other throughout the installation, breaking the light into a pattern of intersecting lines rather than a single mass. The open spacing between them keeps the pattern from feeling heavy against the ceiling below.
That’s what lets it do both jobs at once: serve as the primary overhead light source and read as a visual feature over the kitchen and counter. The Karice team built this dual role from the start around the restaurant’s functional lighting needs.
